The Parent’s Leave and Benefit Act 2019 amended by the Family Leave and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2021 provides five weeks statutory leave for a relevant parent within the first two years of a child’s life, or in the case of adoption, within two years of the placement of the child with the family. This Policy allows eligible employees to apply for a parental care leave, as described below. Employees eligible for parental care leave include biological parents, parents of a legally adopted child or foster child, and others in parental care relationships. Employees may use this benefit once within a twelve (12) -month rolling year. For example, you could take a week of parental leave after your baby is born and then take your 2 weeks' paternity leave entitlement, so you'd get 3 weeks off altogether to care for your child. If you want to take parental leave this way, you should tell your employer at least 21 days before your baby is due or your adoption placement is due to start.
